Q: My gloves have a zippered pouch for a heat pack. Is yours ok to put in there?

A: Warmitup glove warmers are specifically designed for gloves and mittens, their size makes them ideal to install into the zippered heat pouch pocket designed into some gloves, but please check that the pouch is the correct size to fit the warmers.

Q: Can these packs be heated in a microwave?

A: No, they are not microwave safe, so should not be heated using a microwave.

Q: Do you boil them for 6 to 10 minutes just before you put them in gloves?

A: Please let them cool first. These warmers have the benefit that when the contents are liquid, they can be carried with you for days, weeks and even months, before activating for instant heat.

Q: I cannot find a big enough pot or pan big enough for the large size warmers?

A: Don't worry; there are a couple of easy solutions. You could use a roasting tin, heating it on top of the stove or more easily use the "spaghetti method" i.e. using a large pan, put one end in the boiling water and gently feed the rest into the water as the pack becomes soft and liquid.

Q: Are they suitable for kids, children?

A: Yes they can also be used for children, they are very helpful because children often have cold hands and feet and may even cry because of it. Please remember though these are professional products and are not toys please follow the instructions, they are however great fun and we know from personal experience that children are always happy with the products.

Q: We will not have access to put foot warmers in hot water on a stove, but are they suitable for rolling up to place in a small travel kettle?

A: Yes they are suitable for rolling up to place in a small travel kettle or to carry with you in your jacket.

Q: What price are they please?

A: Please click "Prices" on the quick links above and follow go to one of the companies displayed.

Q: Are you foot warmers robust enough to be worn inside ski boots whilst skiing?

A: Yes you can wear the foot warmers inside the ski boots if there is room enough for them. However, because these warmers are designed to warm-up quick, we believe that the foot warmers will not very comfortable. We know from our experience, that most of the people use them to warm up the boots when they go from home to the ski area, they also use them when they take a rest for drinking or eating to warm up the boots and the feet, and people also like to use them after skiing when they go home to warm up and relax their feet.
Which type should be used to warm up the boots before depends on the travel time to the ski area, for long travel the foot warmers or Allroundwarmer will be good, for short travel people also can use a hand-warmer for example. To hold the warmth inside the boots you can put your gloves or hat on the top.

Q: Are the warmers safe?

A: Definitely, due to the unique reaction these products reach a preset temperature, the crystallization will occur at a temperature of 54 C / 130 degrees F, there is no electric – so no risk of shocks. The cushions contain water, food grade sodium acetate and a stainless steel disc, the outer casing is medically approved PVC. Just follow the simple instructions enclosed.

Q: Are Warmup warmers reusable/rechargeable?

A: Yes, the process can be repeated hundreds of times, even thousands The pad will not operate if there is a hole in the vinyl.

Q: What is the best method to store a Warmup cushion?
A: The cushions are best stored in their liquid state. If they are stored for prolonged periods in their crystallized state a small amount of water may evaporate from the pad, causing the solution to become more concentrated. In this concentrated state snowflake type crystals may form in the solution. This state may be reversed by extending the boiling times and by leaving the pad in water to cool.

Q: Why does the instructions say, "Do not apply directly to skin"?

A: Warmers generate heat. Some people may experience increased sensitivity to the high temperatures, or they may have difficulty determining when the cushion is too hot. Our products are safe to handle and use, as long as you apply them properly.

Q: How do warmers work?
A
: The process is basic physics, but is like magic its simple when you know how. The process is called super cooling.
Try a simple experiment; place a cup of water in the freezer, and record the temperatures. You will find that the water would start to freeze at 0 centigrade. You will also notice that the temperature stays at 0C for the time it takes for all the water in the cup to freeze. When all the water freezes the block of ice in the cup will then start to drop further in temperature, falling to the temperature of the freezer.

The Warmup cushions contain sodium acetate and water, sodium acetate is very good at super cooling. It "freezes" at 54 degrees C,130 degrees F, but will remain in a stable liquid state at a much lower temperature. Flexing the metal disc in the liquid creates a chain reaction causing the solution to crystallize (freeze if you like). Once activated, the pad has available to it a predetermined amount of energy. It will use this energy to increase the temperature of the pad to 130 degrees F / 54 C and use whatever is left to maintain that temperature. This ability to produce heat for a period of time is accomplished because all of the liquid does not all crystallize immediately.

Boiling the cushion returns energy to the solution, and it melts back to a liquid state unless you melt all the crystals the chain reaction will stare immediately and the cushion will solidify immediately.

Q: Are there many suppliers of warmers?
A: Warmers have been very popular in the USA and Canada; they have been available since 1982 or earlier. Warmup warmers are designed and manufactured in Europe using innovative designs and advance technology to give consistency, a high quality product, and in shapes and sizes never before available. There are many products of this type manufactured in the Far East, they do not offer the range or have TUV approval. Warmup is a truly international product, with customers all over the world seeking the quality and high build standards offered.

Q: What are your terms and conditions?
A: It is all explained in our privacy policy, but if you have any other questions please feel free to email us.

Q: How long does a warmer stay warm?
A: The heating duration of the pad depends on the size, starting temperature and ambient temperature.

Once activated, the Warmup cushion will increase to a temperature of 54 C and will remain at this temperature until all the liquid crystallizes. Liquid molecules that were not required to heat the pad to its maximum temperature will remain liquid, and crystallize as required, to maintain the maximum temperature. This means that a pad that is warm, for instance one carried inside a rucksack rather than in an outer pocket, will maintain its maximum temperature longer than one that is cold.

The better the insulation around the pad and the quicker it is applied the longer the heat duration. For example a hand warmer will last longer when placed inside a pocket or glove than if held in the hand outdoors in a cold wind. The larger packs with a higher mass will last longer than the smaller ones.

We also have Warmup packs with double chambers, this allows you to activate either the two chambers at the same time or one following the other thus prolonging the heat duration.

Generally the heat pack will heat up within five seconds of activation and stay very hot for around thirty minutes and then start to gradually cool down. However in our tests and feedback, for guidance, we have been able to draw up the following time periods for maximum heating durations.

Glove Warmer 20 to 30 min. (inside glove)
Hand Warmer 45 to 60 min. (inside pocket)
Foot Warmer 30 to 45 min. (warming of cold feet inside shoe or boot)
All-round warmer 60 to 70 min.
Body, neck and back warmer 2 to 3 hours (inside sleeping bag or blanket)
